29115 DRIVER WILLIAM CLEMENTS
48th Div Signals. S.M.R.E.
Interred in Mendinghem British Cemetery. Plot 2, Row F, Grave 22.
Very little is known about William Clements. He was born in Ballymoney in about 1892 and it would appear that some unfortunate incident robbed him of his parents because a report in the papers tells of him being fostered by Patrick Laverty. He is commemorated in Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ballymoney where we can assume Patrick worshipped. Not a great deal of information has come to light about the unit William served with but he was killed in action on 23rd July 1917. He is buried in Mendinghem British Cemetery at Proven, between Poperinge and the coast. A Bushmills man, James McGrattan, is buried a little further along the same row as William, Plot 2, Row F, Grave 53. He died of wounds three days after William, on 26-7-17.
